About English Oasis

Who are we?

We are not or a school nor a dating group.  We are a group of locals and expats looking to make the most of the international scene in Barcelona.  We do so by organizing regular social events (some related to language learning, others not).

Language nights

Our language nights complement (but do not replace) traditional language learning, giving your language a social outlet.  We usually have 3 language exchanges per week, winding down to 1-2 per week over the summer months.  Refer to our “events” listing for our next language exchange (intercambio).

Activities

We organize regular activities (usually on weekends) to encourage people to socialize, meet & talk.  These can range from picnics, tours, games, workshops and more.  Check our upcoming events for details.

A bit of history

The English Oasis started in April 2006 as a 3 month project.  Since then, with the encouragement of our members, we have evolved into what we are today:  A highly social group of expats and locals who get together on a regular basis to “Meet, talk and be Social” in Barcelona.

Our approach to language learning

A foreign language is like a sport.  Theory is great, but of little value without practice.
Language is a communication tool, which has both verbal and non-verbal parameters. We believe in a comprehensive approach with a triple focus — linguistic, cultural and social — where students are exposed to more than language and sentence structures.  They are exposed to the cultural and social situations in which they will find it completely natural to put their language skills to use.

We are NOT…

  • We are NOT affiliated with any school.  We do not have any hidden interest in promoting one entity.  What we recommend is out of genuine belief that they are good.
  • We are NOT a dating club, but we do provide a natural forum for people to meet.  If your main motivation for coming is to “find a girl”, this group is NOT for you. Having said that, a lot of couples have met through the English Oasis, however, it was purely a natural consequence of being in a social environment and meeting someone with similar interests.
